UV Doming

Doming is achieved using a UV resin that solidifies instantly under the effect of ultraviolet lamps.

UV resin offers the advantage of extremely fast drying and immediate handling, which speeds up production.

Ideal for mass production and short deadlines, it is generally intended for items where rapid drying is essential.

It is resistant to external elements and provides good protection against impacts, thus preserving the prints.

How does UV Doming work?

The production of UV Doming follows a precise process to ensure an optimal result:

Label printing

  • Before applying the resin, the labels must be printed using Eco-Solvent or solvent printers, or by screen printing.

Choice of compatible substrates

  • Materials must be compatible with UV resin. Adhesive polymeric vinyl is one of the most commonly used substrates.

Shape cutting

  • Performed using a print/cut machine, a cutting plotter, or a laser engraver to achieve precise shapes.

Weeding

  • This step consists of removing the unnecessary parts of the vinyl (outlines, non-printed areas) in order to obtain perfectly cut labels.

Substrate stabilization

  • The labels are fixed onto stackable storage trays that ensure the support remains secure and protected from dust.

Environmental condition control

  • A stable environment is crucial: a temperature between 22 and 25°C and humidity below 60% help prevent bubbles and ensure optimal drying.

Resin and hardener dosage

  • A precise mixture with a 1/3 and 2/3 ratio is necessary to ensure uniform and optimal curing.

Mixing

  • The mixture is homogenized by stirring the two components manually in a container and letting it rest for a few minutes.

Precise resin application

  • The application is performed using a manual applicator or a syringe, allowing for precise and uniform dosing.

Natural resin spreading

  • Thanks to its viscosity, the resin spreads over the substrate and stays in place without overflowing, due to the difference in surface tension between the two materials (labels and liner).

Polymerization phase

  • The resin polymerizes in 10 minutes in a UV oven.

Quality control and finishing

  • Once curing is complete, each label is inspected to verify the uniformity of the dome and the absence of defects.

Storage and shipping

  • The labels are kept in a clean environment before being sent to customers or applied to their final surfaces.
